Snow in NYC

Today marked what felt like the first proper snow day I have experienced since I moved to New York.  Entirely unprepared but gleefully anticipating the rumors of a snowstorm 'unlike any other', Katie of lublyou and I bundled up and took to the streets of Lower Manhattan in order to take advantage of all the snow flurries we could get.  Needless to say, we were not disappointed and Monday suddenly became a whole lot more interesting.

Ignoring all the warnings to stock up on supplies, stay safe at home and prepare for the worst, we decided what better way to spend our very first NYC snowstorm than to traipse through the city as the snow fell, photographing each step of the way.  Any coldness and poor visibility gave way to delight and giddy excitement as we trudged through the West Village and Chelsea Village which only became whiter and brighter as the afternoon progressed.

It became clear that our idea of 'survival supplies' was just a little bit different than others', consisting primarily of (coffee first), then the totally necessary purchases of doughnuts, cloth napkins and a rolling pin. Evidently we've got our priorities right!

Now as I am sitting cozy at home and sorting through photos from today, I am struck by how much a city which I love any and every day regardless can become even more alluring and magical with just a blanket of white thrown over it.  Whispers of 20-30 inches toward which I am very much looking forward...

  2. This was such an awesome post, thanks so much for sharing, as for winter supplies I too would be a little unconventional, mostly because I live in Hawaii and for us cold is 72 degree lol. Stay safe and enjoy your first New York Blizzard!

  3. You should tweet your photos to CNN - they are network news worthy! I am watching live coverage of the storm on TV from Iowa (in the Midwest of America). Stay safe and warm!!! 👍😃❄️⛄️
