a change in season

My favorite season is here, and hints of Autumn keep appearing everywhere I turn.  People who know me will know that I am completely obsessed with all things pumpkin (spice) related, but there are also so many other reasons I love this season.

Leaves changing their color for one; from green to golden, to deep red... But also Fall style, the air becoming cooler and crisper, making the adjustment from iced coffees to hot, lighting scented candles, adding spices to everything...

This season and all that comes with it brings to mind a word a Danish friend once taught me, one without any direct English translation- hygge.  Roughly translated, hygge could be said to mean 'coziness', but in reality the word carries so much more meaning than just that; denoting a specific state of mind in which contentment is key.

I will always associate Fall (followed by its transition into Winter) with this one word.

  1. 'Hygge' is like the Dutch word 'gezellig - no direct English translation but it's more of a warm feeling that words simply cannot do justice to!
Nice blog - I'll stop by again :)

  2. I read hygge as hug at first haha those are both cozy I guess! That's what I also like about fall here: cozy time to cuddle with a fluffy blanket, hot cider/chocolate/chai/latte, a book/movie and be very nostalgic :-)
